I’m a loner by nature. I know that almost everyone needs time alone, but I need these alone times a lot more. I like being with people, don’t get me wrong. But when I don’t get my space, I get crabby and if people around me don’t watch out, I start biting. Not a nice sight.
Now that I have stopped dorming, and I hardly see the majority of my friends anymore [because most of them are dormers], I have been much more of a lone wolf than usual.
So, for those other lone wolves out there, or for those who want to see what it’s like to be one of us, here are some pointers for some good loner fun:
- Always have some music handy. Nothing says “LEAVE ME ALONE” like headphones plugged into ears. Make sure that your headphones aren’t the shareable kind – not the plugs. Get the ones that have a headband, so people are less likely to disturb you and ask if they could have a listen.
- Have a good book in your bag at all times.
- Puzzle books are fun. I’m into Sudoku right now. [Was loner-ing for three hours in the Econ library awhile ago with my Sudoku puzzle book. What a lovely companion.]
- Buy candy. Keeps your tongue company. Lollipops are my favorite.
- Never make eye contact. When you see someone you know coming towards you, look down so you won’t have to say “hi” first.
- “Lose” your cell phone.
- Forget how to smile.
- Stop taking showers. Brush your teeth once a week.
- Mumble. All the time.
- Buy a cat. After two months buy another one of the opposite sex. Let nature take its course.
- Make sure your schedule is always full. The events don’t have to be important. In fact, ideally, they should be trivial. So at least if people ask you if you could go out at this date, you can honestly say that you have plans.
Got that, kids?
Now, go forth and grow beards, future hermits of the world.
Lone wolves unite! [Ano?]
You know when I want to have some down time, or as my friends call it “the phase”, I never charge my cellphone. I’m this weird hermit crab. I have fun times when all I wanna do is hangout with my friends and party and have a good time, then there’s a time when I completely shut myself out and just be alone, for like a week. But cellphones off is really the way to go for me haha. And lollipops of course, love it too.
I’m not much of a loner. I feel… scared when I walk alone around the campus. I don’t know why. People get surprised when I walk alone and they’d ask me why I am. O_O
I love the ‘buy cats’ suggestion!
yeah… hayyy buhay! i miss sodoku-ing… hmm.. ill have to buy my own! i also have my own loner days lalo na sa baguio.. haha!
I can probably do most of those except the buying a cat part.. definitely not into fury things. LOL.
But cats are cute! Adorable! And much better company than a LOT of human beings! Haha.
Coolness! I’m a loner too! I find accomplishing things quicker when I do it myself. But I don’t think I’ll take some of those pointers you have like not taking a bath and brushing your teeth once a week…ewww…
As for some of them, I’m already doing it. Hahaha!

im a loner pretending to be a social butterfly.but those “loner-ing times” are awkardly spent.i dislike being alone with nothing to do..so your suggestion about having music always handy is very much appreciated.
and yes, i am also thinking of buying a cat. cats are goooooood. :]
i’m not a lone wolf. hehe. i love company now and then…. hehe… but when im with my book.. and in bed… or in front of my pc… leave me alone. hehehe

Ayos yung first bullet! I usually bring some music whenever I’d be meeting someone – since en route to the place, I know I’d be going solo. Eh uso pa naman sa MRT ang mga IPods. =)) Lol.
Nothing’s wrong with being alone. As what our freshman guide says, “don’t go in herds: you look like a bunch of freshmen”. HAHAHA!
Ehh? You stopped your dorm life?
That’s exactly how I felt the sem. before I left the country. I’d be lying if I told you that I was happier not having a dorm. I lived in a condo but that sucked big time because it was boring living alone.
Anyway, sige lang ng sige. Sige!

in order for you to be truly happy with other people, you have to learn first how to be contented and happy being ALONE. its only when you become in touch with yourself that you realize how important it is to be a whole person before sharing your life with someone else..

weird. so when you sister was staying with us, she kept saying how you and i would get along so well, and i can kind of see it now. i throw my mobile around, subconsciously hoping that it will temporarily disappear (and making it a guilt free excuse because i didn’t stage it or anything) to the point that i have the notorious reputation of not picking up so no one bothers to call anymore…hooray!
Love the suggestions; beats verbally abusing total strangers in the street (not that I do of course!!)for entertainment.
I may adopt your suggestion of using headphones for some peace; probably better than my current sign asking the interloper if they like sex and travel!
