[BGmusic: You Don't Have to Say You Love Me by Dusty Springfield - WTH?]
Quote for the day:
“Where’s mah bukket?”
– lolrus
It is the fourth day of this six-day weekend, and I am blogging because I’m quite bored. Not that I’m complaining. I’d pick boredom over the stress of schoolwork any day.
Aaaand… I’m going to be digging into my Mek A Wish page for the first time. And although it’s not what Dxter asked for exactly, I’m going to write about this daunting concept I’m sure we all wish we could have more of: peace.
I don’t believe that world peace is possible. I’m not that delusional. Hatred will always make itself felt in the human race – it’s a fact in this fallen world. There will always be someone bullying the less strong, and sometimes, the rest of us can do nothing else but watch and wallow in our futility.
Okay, so we can’t control the people around us, but what we can do is control how we react to these modern-day Mussolinis.
[I put this in one of my old blogs from way-back-when, and I want to share it again (alright, I admit it, I'm a lazy pig; blame the rain).]
The Real Meaning Of Peace.
There once was a king who offered a prize to the artist who would paint the best picture of peace.
Many artists tried.
The king looked at all the pictures.
But there were only two he really liked, and he had to choose between them. One picture was of a calm lake.
The lake was a perfect mirror for peaceful towering mountains all around it. Overhead was a blue sky with fluffy white clouds. All who saw this picture thought that it was a perfect picture of peace.
The other picture had mountains, too. But these were rugged and bare. Above was an angry sky, from which rain fell and in which lightning played. Down the side of the mountain tumbled a foaming waterfall. This did not look peaceful at all.
But when the king looked closely, he saw behind the waterfall a tiny bush growing in a crack in the rock. In the bush a mother bird had built her nest. There, in the midst of the rush of angry water, sat the mother bird on her nest – in perfect peace.
Which picture do you think won the prize?
The king chose the second picture.
Do you know why?
“Because,” explained the king, “peace does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble, or hard work. Peace means to be in the midst of all those things and still be calm in your heart. That is the real meaning of peace.”
DQ’s image of peace: Awhile ago, while the thunderstorm raged outside, my mother baked cinnamon rolls.
And I ate them. ^_^

i agree, if we cannot control the people around us, better control how we reach para di naman tayo masyadong maging affected or ma-i drag tayo pababa ng mga mali sa kapaligiran natin
kasi naman, people take the definition of peace too strictly or too conservatively.
I like your definition. very simple, very effective. I felt the peace in your statement.
nice. at least not those “i believe that peace can be achieved through blahblah” reasons. and your definition, like what inflickted said, is simple yet encompassing? err.. maybe it’s just damn true.
ang drama nung story. LOL. ;P
I agree with the king. Masyadong ginegeralize kasi ng iba na ang meaning ng peace ay yung pagiging tahimik. LOL!
Cinnamon rolls! Penge!
Aww, i wish someone would bake me cinnamon rolls. >_<
the story was effectively cheesy, but i like it. it’s amazing how people continue to find themselves in deadlocks searching for such an unattainable dream, forgetting that they themselves can control such.
cinnamon rolls + espresso = love.
that was such a nice story!
The king chose to be realistic than delusional. He knew that peace in a literal way is not possible but in ways, he implied that peace can be obtained even though your surroundings aren’t described to be peaceful. Nice observation.
aww cinammon rolls. gimme some? lol.
this six-day vacation totally freaks us all. one good thing is that you can do productive things such as posting here on your blog.
peace being the state of calmness amidst difficulties is what makes people. if people have it, why not live? jhed is totally right.
haha. i just thought you are going to post something chiefly about cinnamon roll. i was surprised with the last sentence. i love cinnamon rolls.
i was looking for a connection between the post title and the content while i was reading it. and then, tadaaa! wow. nasa dulo lang pala. and it’s only a sentence long. LOL. love the story, though.
[oh, sana ma-grant mo yung wish ko. HAHAHAHA.]
I’m not into cinnamon rolls that much. Lately though, I have a strange craving for cashew nuts, haha! Aaaahh.. And I’ve been downloading movies nonstop for this loooooong weekend, haha!
i remember the said story.. i loved it.
hehe. this is the world of relativity,.. where everything has a counterpart. hot and cold… life and death, war and peace….
i can imagine you eating the cinnamon… hehe
In a world without one of the two elements, positives and negatives, life would be boring. No matter how we shout for world peace, we can’t ignore the fact that there must be a balance between good and evil.
Hihihi. Cinnamon rolls. Pahingi? *stomach growls* LOL.
DQ’s image of peace rocks! Mine would involve gelato and sushi together =) Hahaha.
my idea of peace.
free lunch. :p
And cinnamon rolls could calm down an angry stomach. Now that’s a perfect peace.
kaya nga sabi sa kanta “let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me..”lolz wala lang.
hay start na naman na ng class. ngaun magcocomplain nmn n tau sa loads sa skul.hehehe. gudlak stin
